The X-Men movie universe was quite populated over the last year and things started to get on the move. At least for some productions like Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse. We cannot say the same about the X-Men spin-off Gambit.
The production had some setbacks on its way, with Channing Tatum almost dropping out and a departed director. The initial director for the movie, Rupert Wyatt left the production due to creative differences.
“He wants to make the best version of something, and he’s so desperately afraid of making something not good,” a studio executive who has worked with Wyatt declared, referring to the reason why the director of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes left Gambit.
Since then, Fox has been desperately looking for a filmmaker to take over directing Gambit. Last we've heard, Fox had to choose between Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), Shane Black (Iron Man 3), and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block).
For the sake of actually finishing the production until its release date, they might have finally taken the decision, as THR reports that "Liman is in final negotiations to direct the comic book movie after a several rounds of meetings, including one that took place Thursday."
Will Doug Liman come up X-fans’ expectations?
Is Doug Liman a good choice? Regarding his experience with action movies, he seems suitable to take over the directorial duties for Gambit. He directed Edge of Tomorrow and it came out really good. He was also at the helm of The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two other great productions.
Hopefully the filming will start soon and we will keep you posted with the unfolding of the events on the set.
Gambit is a New Orleans native mutant known for his ability to mentally create, control, and manipulate pure kinetic energy. He is a master of card-throwing, a tortured soul that X-fans surely can't wait to see in a great solo movie.
The release of Gambit is expected October 7, 2016.
