The seventh installment of Universal Pictures' Fast and Furious film franchise was released last year, and bagged a mammoth $1.516 billion at the box office worldwide. When a movie does that well, the studio is likely to start making elaborate plans for more – and this one is no exception! They’re planning for not just one, but three sequels! Vin Diesel has confirmed that the eighth installment of the $3.907 billion franchise will hit the theaters on April 14, 2017, and is intended to be the first installment in a new trilogy.
And now, the actor has confirmed that a new Fast and Furious trilogy is indeed in the making! He used his official Instagram account to announce the release dates of the ninth and tenth installments. While Fast and Furious 9 will release on April 19, 2017, the tenth and last installment will hit the theaters on April 2, 2021. The very first installment, The Fast and the Furious, was released in 2001 - so, the series will conclude its journey after exactly twenty years. Check out Vin Diesel's post below!
Paul Walker's Brother won't be in Fast and Furious 8!
After Paul Walker was killed in a car accident during the filming of the latest Fast and Furious movie, his brother Cody Walker was brought in to shoot his remaining few scenes. The initial rumors for Fast 8, which kicks off production this June, suggested that Cody will return for this movie, as well.
But now, Polygon has come up with the confirmation from a Universal Pictures representative that such rumors are nothing but fake. Cody Walker won't be back!
That definitely makes sense, because the vice-chairman of NBC Universal, Ron Meyer, told Variety last November that even though Paul's character Brian O'Connor will be "represented in some form or another" in Fast 8, we won't have him "as a performer, as an actor".
