The Fast and The Furious' "last trilogy" starts with Fast 8, currently in development. Vin Diesel revealed on his social media that the most used filming location will be New York, yet he did not mention Iceland. What about Iceland? Well, Iceland Review reported (via a local publication) that the movie will be partly shot in Akranes.
“The Hollywood film Fast 8, the eighth of The Fast and the Furious action movies, will be partly shot in the West Iceland town of Akranes, about 45 km (28 miles) north of ReykjavÃk, VÃsir reports. Mayor RegÃna Ãsvaldsdóttir confirmed this. She told VÃsir the film crew will be arriving in April.” (Iceland Review)
The movie aims to bring new exciting elements, extreme scenes, with a different feel from previous installments. So Akranes will be the scene of “the largest explosion ever in Iceland,” as Visir reported. Fast 8 will film the explosive scene in Akranes' harbor and at "Cement Fields."
Fast 8 will not be only about explosions, cars and action
Director F. Gary Gray highlighted that he wanted to make something fresh and different.
"We're really pushing to make sure the audience feels like it's not more of the same. They feel like it's fresh, they feel like the characters they've come to know and love are there, but this is gonna be different, and that's probably the most I can give you right now. It's kind of top secret." (via Collider). He also mentioned that he intends to bring in the movie a wide range of elements:”spectacle and great action set pieces but also gives you character and great story and plotting and narrative.”
Fast 8 will bring great stunts but will go beyond the action with other elements, as F. Gary Gray reveals, so it must be exciting for the fans to see what will he come up with. Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Eva Mendes will reprise their roles, and Mendes might get her own spin-off.
The movie opens in theaters on April 2017.
