We already know that a reboot movie to Tomb Raider franchise is on the way. With Roar Uthaug at the helm, the search is on for a young actress to replace Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. After her outstanding performance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley has become a fan-favorite to play the video game-based character.
The British actress seems to be interested in playing Lara Croft, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I'm waiting for someone to say, ‘I want you, let's do it.'”
She adds that she hasn't read a script for the movie yet. However, the 23-year-old actress admits that there "have been conversations" about her portraying Lara Croft. And she makes it clear that taking on the role wouldn't adversely affect her schedule, even though Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently filming. She adds, “Absolutely, I'm trying to fill up my calendar.”
John Boyega wants Daisy Ridley to play Lara Croft!
John Boyega has played Tomb Raider video games, and he wants his fellow The Force Awakens co-star to be the next Lara Croft. He thinks she would be a perfect pick for the character. He states:
I played Tomb Raider, the game; it's a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version. But I texted Daisy [and] was like, “This is you…you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.” She should be.
Earlier this month, the reboot movie’s director claimed that he wants Lara Croft to "feel like a real human being". He also shared that he's "a fan of strong female characters". The Force Awakens' Rey was obviously one of the strongest female characters we've come across in the recent past, so it would be quite difficult to find a better candidate for the role than Daisy Ridley.
