The first Deadpool 2 teaser trailer surpassed our expectations and proved that Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox haven't run out of wacky ideas for their marketing campaign. A synopsis for the sequel was released at the same time, and – not unexpectedly – revealed nothing about the film’s plot. In addition, the title was changed from Deadpool 2 to the out-of-the-box Untitled Deadpool Sequel.
Any actual footage from the film was squeezed into a brief couple of seconds, but it may have revealed an interesting plot point.
The teaser indicates that Negasonic Teenage Warhead is no longer an apprentice, and it appears that Dopinder’s role will expand in the sequel. The teaser’s quick shots also provide a glimpse of Julian Dennison's still-unnamed character, who appears to be a powerful mutant.
The shot with the actor from Hunt for the Wilderpeople also features Cable. The scene is apparently set in a church of some kind, or maybe it’s an oratory. On the walls behind Dennison, there are some posters that clearly signal conflict between humans and mutants.
On the right are the words pureblood, purity, humanity, and infinity; on the left we see Prepare yourself, the end is near. Most interestingly, the figure of Cable appears directly beneath The end is near.
Can we assume that Cable is an enemy of the humans? Is he, for humans, the symbol of the apocalypse? That certainly appears to be the case. And it makes even more sense for this scene to take place as Dennison’s mutant destroys the place.
The Untitled Deadpool Sequel will be released on June 1, 2018.
