It took Edgar Wright 10 years to come up with the Ant-Man project and bring it to perfection - unfortunately, while his idea seemed like the best one for any movie, it wasn't exactly Marvel's best way of introducing the diminutive superhero. So they traded Edgar for Peyton Reed, who is known for movies such as Yes Man and The Break-Up.
But the director's past projects are of little importance for Marvel and Captain America: The Winter Soldier proved that and then some. So what do we know about Ant-Man until now?
What do we know about Ant-Man?
Basically, this will be a heist movie in which Scott Lang (portrayed by Paul Rudd) will unite with Hank Pym (portrayed by Michael Douglas) in order to face a generation of towering threats (there is a pun in here, somewhere). As described in the new synopsis, Hank Pym is Scott's mentor - they will have to come up with a plan and pull of a daring robbery in order to save the world.
New characters were also announced. If until now we thought that Michael Pena will play the main villain of Ant-Man, it was revealed that the actor will portray just Luis. Corey Stoll was announced as Yellowjacket - which is, essentially, one of the names Hank Pym had as a superhero.
Tip "Ti" Harris will be Dave, David Dastmalchian will be Kurt, while Wood Harris will be seen as Gale - nobody knows who these characters are or if they will be seen again in the MCU.
Who is the villain?
The main antagonist for Ant-Man was known months ago to be Castillo - and he is rumored to be a Latin American dictator, which will most likely be the Marvel version of Fidel Castro. This new synopsis revealed that he will be portrayed by Jordi Mollà , who was last seen in Riddick.
The rumor also is that this villain will be seen in the portion of Ant-Man set in the 1960's - and this part of the movie will also bring back Hayley Atwell in the role of Peggy Carter. So it is safe to assume that S.H.I.E.L.D. will also be back and that Ant-Man will also debate some Cold War politics.
Ant-Man arrives on the 17th of July 2015 and it is the end of Marvel’s Phase II.
