The current cast of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant includes Michael Fassbender, the sole survivor of the unfortunate expedition from Prometheus. To our surprise, Noomi Rapace (Elizabeth Shaw) will not appear in the outer space movie; Katherine Waterston will take over the female lead role. The movie will most likely reveal what happened to Elizabeth Shaw in Prometheus, which is another mystery.
The Wrap reports that Scott is looking at an unusual actor to add alongside the rest of the cast. We’re talking about Danny McBride, a comedy actor, whose most notable roles were in Eastbound and Down, Rock the Kasbah and Cameron Crowe's Aloha.
Alien: Covenant to have the same humor we saw in The Martian?
When you think of McBride, you think of comedy. And Ridley Scott is an expansive director. Those who have seen The Martian know that among the serious events in the film, some parts were spiced up with humor. So it’s not impossible for a serious movie like Alien: Covenant to include little humorous moments among the more serious happenings.
Maybe McBride will be one of the cast members of Covenant, but don’t expect the expedition to a dark and mysterious place to be very funny. Nor was astronaut Mark Watney’s experience on Mars; yet, he found little things to make fun of. Of course, the role might be not related to the comedic part at all, giving McBride the opportunity to make way for more in his acting career.
The shooting for Alien: Covenant will start this spring, and the movie is scheduled to release in theaters October 6, 2017. The script is penned by Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Michael Green (Green Lantern).
