Officially, 20th Century Fox has announced that the Prometheus sequel will be called Alien: Covenant, as director Ridley Scott has said. But this new title also brings some changes with it, as you will see in the official synopsis released by the studio.
But first things first: is anybody else excited about this project, after the previous movies have run the franchise into the ground? Does anybody else want to see a continuation of a movie which made little to no sense to most of the viewers?
Apparently, Ridley Scott is on the biggest waves at the moment, after the unexpected success of The Martian. And so the audiences want to see more of the universe he created back in 1979. And since today's big reveal connects that first movie with the intended prequel trilogy, then all the better!
So, without further ado, here is the official synopsis of Alien: Covenant!
"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS "” and connects directly to Scott's 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world "” whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."
As we all remember, maybe, Prometheus ended with only two survivors: the android David and the main character Elizabeth Shaw. Noomi Rapace has said, on different occasions, that she is in the books to return to this franchise - and, until John Logan (Gladiator, Spectre) was called to polish the script, she was still convinced she will make a comeback. As the synopsis has revealed, we cannot be certain any longer about that.
David is now the sole inhabitant of the planet, which makes us believe that he completely lost it after the first movie and killed his companion - or maybe she died. In any way, if Rapace will indeed return she will most likely have just a brief cameo.
Most recently, Ridley Scott said that the introductory part will feature the survivors of the previous movie, while the second part will introduce the new female lead - most likely the captain of the crew of the new ship, called Covenant. Furthermore, the director also revealed that this new movie will also introduce the home planet of the Engineers.
Fox already announced the official release date for Alien: Covenant, on the 6th of October 2016 - so will you clear your schedule for that day? Or have you lost interest in this franchise?
On more thing should be added - maybe it is better for Ridley Scott to move on with Alien: Covenant. Who knows where Neill Blomkamp might have taken this series"¦
