In 2000's X-Men Professor Charles Xavier was introduced to the public as a bald, paralyzed man in a wheel chair, possessing supernatural abilities. At the time, Patrick Stewart was portraying the scientific genius whose origins were explored further on in X-Men: First Class. From there on, James McAvoy took the role of the younger professor, not bald and not in a wheelchair.
The part where he ended up paralyzed was explained, but not why he was bald, but we are going to find out the details in X-Men: Apocalypse. Before we get to find out from the movie, we have some interesting details that leaked from the actor who portrays the professor himself.
Almost by mistake, James McAvoy has revealed how his notorious bald X-Men character Professor Charles Xavier lost his hair, giving away details from the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. Invited to The Graham Norton Show with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), the actor was asked about this particular issue.
"Is there a good reason for why he goes bald or is it really dull?” Norton asked (via Bleeding Cool).
The founder of X-Men has been through trauma. Maybe, or maybe not…
Here's what McAvoy replies:
"We couldn't have a superhero just lose his hair, so he goes through something so horrible and painful that he literally half pulls his hair out and the rest falls out," McAvoy replied.
After realizing he had just revealed a tease from the movie's plot, he says "maybe or maybe not," yet the "damage" was done, the information leaked. And when he was asked if the audience was supposed to know this he said that "I just sh-t myself because I know, Fox Studios who own me might be angry with me for sharing that."
As it seems, McAvoy went with the flow and felt into the trap, as previously, his Victor Frankenstein co-star Daniel Radcliffe was asked about his character's baldness. He was next to be questioned about the “shaving experience”.
Whether it's a key information for the plot or not, we're going to find out.
