X-Men: Apocalypse Concept Art Features Cyclops And Jean Grey

Cyclops and Jean Grey

X-Men: Apocalypse is about one year away from release (May 27th, 2016). Bryan Singer's venture will, as stated before, revolutionize the X-Men universe.

Given the plot is unknown, we can't actually put our finger on what exactly will change. But did you get a good look at the cast?

New mutants are introduced and plenty of veterans have been recast in view of replacing the old / mature characters with younger versions. Which is also true about Cyclops and Jean Grey.

That rightfully makes us believe the action in X-Men: Apocalypse will pull from a comic book series released no sooner than 2012: All New X-Men, the action being set sometime in the 1980s, and not in a distant indefinite future.

The latest concept art for X-Men: Apocalypse, released via Empire Online, featuring Cyclops and Jean Grey supports this theory. Hit the jump to see the image!

Did you take a good look at it? Is this concept art enough to conclude the action takes place in the 1980s?

Let's see!

The fight scene is set in a city in ruin, with Cyclops atop a wrecked car and shooting light from his eyes, and Jean Grey taking shelter behind some debris.

Well, there is this also this Pepsi sign and that flying enemy Cyclops shoots at. In all likelihood, it's Archangel. So, clearly, there is the triangle featured on the cover of the All-New X-Men #39 (if we exclude the less telling contour of what appears to be either Iceman or Beast).

Yeah, The Black Vortex Chapter 5. Plus"¦

The cover of issue 39 of All New X-Men shows some details of Cyclops and Jean Grey's costumes.

And while the new concept art is rather hazy, we can approximate and say their suits look like the ones on the cover. Is that an overstatement?

In all cases, they're not clearly distinct! I don't know about that strange architectural structure in front of Cyclops"¦ Could it be some sort of ginormous dam? Or perhaps a detail of Apocalypse's ship?

Have your say below! What's the wall in front of them? Who's the feebly rendered opponent? Why is Jean hiding? Do you agree X-Men: Apocalypse pulls from the All-New X-Men?

And, don't forget, stay tuned, we’ll bring you the hottest scoop on all things X-Men!
