Last year's Ant-Man didn't introduce just the diminutive hero - it also presented his partner (well, more like future partner) the Wasp. Portrayed by Evangeline Lilly, Hope van Dyne helped Scott Lang understand how the suit works and how to make the most of its special abilities - however, she didn't get to wear one herself.
But a tease was dropped in the credits scene, announcing that she will indeed become the Wasp. Unfortunately, it won't happen during Captain America: Civil War, as it was previously planned, but in the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is supposed to drop on the 6th of July 2018.
So we can say, that, apparently, Marvel has big plans for the superheroine. And, as scriptwriter Adam McKay says, it all depends on Wasp's performance in the sequel. If she becomes a fan-favorite, then she will most likely receive a solo movie: "I think it all depends on this sequel and how the character plays."
For this sequel, director Peyton Reed said that he is yet to figure the duo's fighting style - but, in any way, it should be known that Ant-Man and Wasp are equal partners in all the heroic stuff they'll do. And this is the selling point: to make her shine in a movie which isn't just about her.
Evangeline Lilly is a well-known actress, inclined for terrific action sequences - for example, she did play a more than awesome elf warrior. Will Marvel offer her this opportunity? It is certainly possible.
In any way, the Ant-Man sequel won't be released until 2018. So if we are going to talk about a spin-off centered on his partner, this won't happen any time soon. But maybe it is all for the better - in this way, her story will be a more compelling one. And, if we learned anything from Jessica Jones, the audiences will watch a movie if the storytelling is done well.
