While we might have an idea what role Cate Blanchett will have in Thor: Ragnarok and while we may have found out about Odin's whereabouts, we still have no idea what role Hulk will have in this movie. Or do we?
For long the fans have asked for one of the two major Hulk storylines to be adapted: either Planet Hulk, either World War Hulk. And each and every time Mark Ruffalo or Kevin Feige spoken about such adaptations, they were adamant that none of them will happen (given the box office track Hulk had with his solo movies, it is very understandable why).
So this is quite a big surprise to find out that Thor: Ragnarok will partially adapt the Planet Hulk storyline. Yes, this is just a rumor for now but, apparently, this is how things will go down.
Thor: Ragnarok will see Thor coming back to Asgard to find out more about the Infinity Stones. However, he is greeted by Hela and Loki, who banish him. In the fight, Mjolnir either gets destroyed, either is stolen.
He is banished onto a gladiatorial planet, where he must fight for his survival. With a shaved head, he fights his enemies to the last one. And this last one is none other than Hulk. The latter, however, recognizes Thor and together go in the search of a powerful weapon, which will help Thor defeat Loki and Hela.
If you are wondering how Hulk recognized Thor, the same report says that the Green Goliath hasn't reverted back since the end of Age of Ultron. It isn't said, however, how he ended on that planet (most likely, he was brought via magic, being recognized by Loki as a terrible foe).
Apparently, in Thor: Ragnarok both Loki and Hela will be in some way involved in the major arc of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It isn't specified whether they are working for Thanos or whether they have other plans. But we can suspect that the powerful artifact sought by Thor is either the second Infinity Gauntlet, either one of the Infinity Stones.
So there you have it - Planet Hulk is being adapted. But only partially.
Thor: Ragnarok will start shooting this summer, for a 3rd of November 2017 release date.
