So you know that the new Spider-Man is Tom Holland, who will become Peter Parker for the first time in Captain America: Civil War and then appear in his own solo film in 2017.

But there is also something else that you should know - some more details about the deal between Sony and Marvel, concerning the rights over the character. More explicitly, these details concern the things Marvel needs to respect when brining the web-slinger on the big screens.

Spider-Man - for Marvel, according to Sony

We can add that these new details come courtesy of last year's Sony leak (the gift that keeps on giving).

According to the deal made between the studios, there are traits which are mandatory for a Peter Parker Spider-Man, but not for other versions of the superhero (such as Miles Morales). Thus, Peter Parker will always be a heterosexual Caucasian, while Marvel is free to make with the other versions of the characters whatever the studio wants.

With one single amendment: even if the studio decides to go with someone else than Peter Parker, that someone else needs to stay true to the comics. So, in a way, there is little to no liberty in here. In the latter case, when Peter Parker doesn't appear, the studio can mix the character traits of several Spider-Men from the comics, but cannot come up with something new, designed especially for the film.

Traits

According to the same leaked documents, the Peter Parker version of Spider-Man should always gain his powers as depicted in the first issue when the superhero appeared. And this origin has him bitten by a spider and raised by Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

Furthermore, according to the same leaked documents, the Marvel Studios should keep Spider-Man as child-friendly as possible. Thus, any kind of Spider-Man (whether Peter Parker, Miles Morales, or someone else) shouldn't kill (unless in self-defense), will never torture, will never smoke or drink, and will never engage in sexual acts, unless he is 16 or more.

When restraint brings creativity 

This is pretty basic, right? This is the Spider-Man we’ve seen until now. But this apparent lack of liberty Marvel faces actually gives them another opportunity. This makes Marvel consider other supervillains as well, besides the ones we’ve already seen (Green Goblin for 3 times, for example).

And Kevin Feige has just confirmed that they are looking for some other opponent for Spider-Man. Who might they be?
