While Black Panther will also make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War, almost everybody is more excited about another first appearance in the MCU: the new Spider-Man, portrayed by Tom Holland. And even if we are about 3 months away from the release of the movie, we still haven't caught a single glimpse of the superhero. How come?
Well, this is a good question, which can be simply answered this way: the Russo bros want to keep this as a surprise for the fans. But this is the answer we'd give - the reality is much more complicated and concerns the money-machine Hollywood is.
During an interview with Collider (interview which can be seen at the end of this article), the directors approached this issue. And, as they say, the relationship between Sony and Marvel isn't crystal clear just yet. Yes, the news came out since (very) early last year - but, apparently, not all the legal aspects have been clarified.
So, in a way, we can say that we haven't seen Spider-Man simply because Marvel and Sony can't agree which of the studio will get the money from all the merchandise (this is a bit reductionist, we know, but this is basically it). So the Russo brothers must keep the character a secret.
And we literally don't know a thing about Spider-Man, except for the fact that he'll be in Iron Man's team. We have no idea how he looks, we have no idea what his arc will be all about, and so on.
From a point of view, we can certainly understand the pecuniary reasons - however, as fans, our minds are boggled. The response of the announcement of Spider-Man entering the MCU certainly showed both the studios that the character will bring BIG money to both of them"¦
