The recently released Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer made it clear that Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), would have more than a minor role in the movie. In addition to presenting Peter Parker with an upgraded suit (and then snatching it away), Tony will apparently act as his full-time mentor, coming to his rescue whenever the Vulture and his team outplay him.
It appears that Spider-Man: Homecoming will also explore Tony's love life. A new rumor suggests that his love interest, Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts, will return in the movie. The scoop comes from Lainey Gossip, an outlet that proved to be right about the non-appearance of the Stark Industries CEO in Captain America: Civil War, despite reports that she would be in the movie.
According to the report, Pepper didn’t show up in last year's Russo Brothers flick due to efforts by Marvel Studios to avoid story bloat and avoid the additional expense of renewing Paltrow's expired contract. However, since Sony Pictures is signing paychecks for the upcoming Jon Watts flick, Marvel didn't hesitate to include the character this time around.
In Captain America: Civil War, RDJ's character informed Chris Evans' character that his Iron Man activities had placed a strain on their relationship, so he and Pepper had broken up. If the rumor is accurate, we might gain a better understanding of the situation in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
In the May 5, 2016 release, Tony got a little flirty with Peter's Aunt May Parker (Marisa Tomei). Many speculated that the two might become more intimate in the July 7, 2017 release, but lead actor Tom Holland told Yahoo that there was no chance of that happening:
No. No, no, no, no. I thought after Civil War that maybe that could happen, but not anymore.
Uncle Ben must be smiling down from heaven right now!
