Spider-Man: Homecoming has recently been in the news for adding a name or two to its cast roster every now and then, and for the photos leaked from its Atlanta set. And now, we have another new cast member and another new set photo!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have sealed a deal with yet another promising youngster in Hollywood, 15-year old actress Angourie Rice. Rice is best known for portraying Rose in the Australian apocalyptic thriller These Finest Hours and Holly March in Shane Black's buddy cop movie The Nice Guys.
As with the rest of the class, details on what role Angourie Rice is playing in Spider-Man: Homecoming are being kept under wraps, like those of most other cast members. But many are speculating that the Aussie actress, who is blond, could be portraying Gwen Stacy. Bryce Dallas Howard played the role in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, as did Emma Stone in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man movies.
Others are speculating that Angourie Rice could be portraying the other popular Peter Parker love-interest, Mary Jane Watson, in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This is due to the fact that the actress looks a bit like Kirsten Dunst, the actress who portrayed the character alongside Tobey Maguire's webslinger.
Rice is actually the first Spider-Man: Homecoming cast member who appears to be a contender for portraying either Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson.
We haven't come across any set photo featuring the actress, so we’re not sure whether she has started filming her parts. Marvel and Sony have not offered any comment on Angourie Rice's casting.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is exactly one year away from hitting the theaters. Keeping that in mind, check out the photo Tom Holland has shared via his official social media account of himself in his Spider-Man costume on the movie's set:
Here's the text that accompanied the photo:
