It’s been confirmed that “Community” and “The Martian” star Donald Glover is appearing in the upcoming “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” but according to recent comments from the actor, we’re no closer to knowing what role he’s playing in the movie.
Glover is appearing in “Atlanta,” a new series on FX, and during a panel for the show, he was asked about his role in the new Spider-Man film, which stars Tom Holland and is currently filming in Atlanta.
“I’m sworn to secrecy,” Glover said, confirming that his role is being kept under wraps. But he did comment on the filming experience, implying that he’s already wrapped his scenes on the Atlanta shoot.
“It’s really great. I had a really great time on that set. Jon [Watts] is doing a really great job as director. It was really fun to be home.”
Glover was at the center of a recent online fan campaign calling for him to play Miles Morales, another Marvel character who uses the Spider-Man identity. While the movement didn’t successfully land Glover that role, it most likely got the attention of the Marvel studio.
“It was kind of an accident,” he said of the Morales craze. “I really wasn’t out there trying to do that. I feel like the internet kind of just did that, but it was cool because now I get to see from the inside a lot of that stuff, which is all you can ask for as a fan of something.”
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is set to hit theatres July 7, 2017. How much do you think we’ll see of Glover in the film?
