Simon Kinberg wants Gambit to be great, so he is taking some more time to work on every aspect of the movie. It seems that the script is not to his liking, and he wants to make more changes.
Marvel did an excellent job with the Deadpool standalone movie, and X-Men: Apocalypse was quite successful. Could these be the reasons why Kinberg is taking more time to figure out the Gambit movie? Certainly, he wants to keep up with the standards that Deadpool set.
Deadpool didn’t come out of the blue, it’s been a ten-year process
Back in May, the Gambit director seemed to be content with the script, and we were expecting the project to take off in July. However, things took a U-turn, and the team is back where they started.
Kinberg explained why it’s taking so long:
I think the truth is when you have these movies that need a very special and unique tone, it takes a little while to find that tone"¦Deadpool feels like it exploded out of nowhere, but it was a 10-year development process on that movie. I think it was honed over those 10 years.
I hope that Gambit doesn't take 10 years, but it takes a little honing to get that tone and that voice exactly right. The character has such a specific voice in the comic, in the same way that Deadpool has a specific voice in the comic, that we want to make sure that we capture that voice on the page. Really, it's just about getting a screenplay that is worthy of that character, and I think we're really close right now (Slashfilm).
Waiting for the Gambit movie? What do you think about this “long-term” approach?
