Logan proved that an R-rated comic book movie can be a major box office and critical hit as long as it tells a great story. Unfortunately, 2017’s Logan was also the final X-Men film to star Hugh Jackman as the clawed mutant. Of course, the actor had previously said that he might reconsider retiring from the role, but only if the mutants joined the MCU. But after that, Jackman backtracked again, making it clear that he was done with Wolverine.
But now that the X-Men are actually joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, could there be a chance that Jackman might return to the role that shaped his career?
At the Ace Comic Con panel, actor Sebastian Stan (the MCU’s Winter Soldier) said that he’d talked with Hugh Jackman, who seemed to have changed his tune about Wolverine:
Recently, I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman. I didn't know what other awkward thing I could talk about, but to be like, “Am I going to see you soon?” He said a couple of things to me, and I'll just leave it at that. Otherwise, I feel like I'm going to get into trouble with somebody.
I asked him, though, because I kept thinking whether or not Logan was supposed to be the last Wolverine thing or whatever, and he said to me he's been thinking about it and it's been on his mind. So, I don't know, he may be (via We Got This Covered).
Of course, that doesn't mean that Jackman will return as Wolverine; it just means that he’s given the idea some thought. He may be considering a project with Sebastian Stan that’s completely unrelated to the comic book movie genre. Or it could mean any number of other things.
But then again, Stan said that he might get in trouble with somebody for revealing too much. And that kind of secrecy has been an MCU staple for years.
What are your thoughts on the possibility of Hugh Jackman joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
