Scarlet Witch will definitely play a major part in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. And while we know she and brother Quicksilver will start out on Ultron's side, chances are they'll eventually join the Avengers.
Well, in fact, if Quicksilver dies, as rumormongers seems to speculate, Scarlet Witch will be the one mutant sibling to finally become an Avenger, despite her start as an ally of the villain.
What are the chances of that to happen? Badass Digest sat with Kevin Feige and here's what Marvel President had to say in respect to both this issue and to other interesting facts about Age of Ultron, Captain Marvel and - as we like to believe - Civil War.
Captain Marvel and her cameo in Age of Ultron
Captain Marvel should make her solo debut in the summer of 2018. But a previous cameo was - and still is, for that matter - heavily rumored.
They could easily work out Captain Marvel in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or in any of the Marvel flicks to be released until 2018. Though, indeed, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is off the table, as James Gunn confirms.
But, indeed, whoever thought Captain Marvel should have appeared in Age of Ultron was not wrong. "˜Cause here's what Kevin Feige confessed to Badass Digest.
"There were drafts that maybe people somehow got their hands on and read early on that included some characters – maybe others, but certainly one, which is why it's dangerous to read scripts early on, and talk about them early on"¦"
And adds: "[Captain Marvel] was in a draft. But to me, it would have done that character a disservice, to meet her fully formed, in a costume and part of the Avengers already when 99% of the audience would go, "˜Who is that?' It's just not the way we've done it before."
And a bit of a comparison to help you understand why Carol Danvers is better off without a cameo in Age of Ultron:
"Thanos is the good "˜Who's that,' because he's clearly a bad guy, for comic fans he represents a specific storyline, you can get the buzz started from fans to non-fans with that cameo – as opposed to a title character, who deserves their own story. Even Black Widow you don't meet in the last two seconds of Iron Man 2 wearing her costume – you evolve that going forward."
Well, that definitely clears it.
But there's more. The fact they canceled Captain Marvel's appearance in Age of Ultron made room for another opportunity. And this one concerns Scarlet Witch and her future with the Avengers.
Scarlet Witch in Captain America: Civil War?
Here's how Feige puts it:
"The way we reveal Scarlet Witch [in costume] at the end of the movie? Those were Captain Marvel plate shots. Joss said, "˜We'll cast her later!' And I said, "˜Yeah Joss, we'll cast her later.' [Whispers to an invisible associate who isn’t Joss] "˜We're not putting her in there!'"
And, indeed, this seems to open a new horizon for Scarlet Witch.
"Finally Joss was like "˜Let's use those plates to let Scarlet Witch fly into frame, give her a big entrance?' And that makes sense – she's come to their side, and she deserves the cool intro, which will feed into another movie we start shooting in a few weeks."
Did I hear this right? In my ears, it sounds like Scarlet Witch is in for Captain America: Civil War. So, this is practically a confirmation, though the exact words are not uttered.
What do you guys think? Am I reading too much into Feige's account? If Age of Ultron is Scarlet Witch's intro, doesn't it make sense to see her in Civil War? But, of course, this time as a full-blown Avenger!
Have your say below! Captain America: Civil War comes to theaters May 6th, 2016.
