While Tim Miller's Deadpool release was special for Rob Liefeld because he co-created the titular superhero, the upcoming sequel will be perhaps even more special for him because it will introduce another character that he's co-created, Cable. That has already been confirmed, and fans have also flooded the web with lists of actors they feel are most fitting for the role.
A number of actors have also expressed their interest in portraying Cable in the upcoming 20th Century Fox venture. But according to a recent rumor, an actor who hasn't lobbied publicly for the role is actually the top contender. It's Bloodline star Kyle Chandler.
That rumor has generated mixed response among the fans. While many are hoping for it to come true, many others hope that it doesn't. They would prefer Ron Perlman, Stephen Lang, Dolph Lundgren, or some other actor as Cable in Deadpool 2.
But what does Rob Liefeld think? Will he be happy if Kyle Chandler lands the role as the time-traveling son of Scott Summers, aka Cyclops?
While speaking at Nerdy Pop (via Screen Rant), the writer/artist has addressed the rumor. He claims that he doesn't know Chandler in person and he doesn't know if the 50-year-old actor is going to play Cable. But if he does, Rob believes that we would be "so lucky" to have someone as "talented" as he is in Deadpool 2:
Kyle Chandler is one of the best actors in Hollywood. People trip over themselves to work with him. If, by chance, that rumor was true and the production was lucky enough to get somebody as talented as him, I would just trust in the people that gave you Deadpool to figure that out for the best.
And he has some advice for the fans as well. He wants them to relax a little and trust the creative team that brought us the Merc with a Mouth's first movie. According to Rob:
I would just say, everybody calm down. My whole thing, I would have #TrustInTim, trust in Tim Miller the fantastic director, and trust in Ryan [Reynolds] our producer and genius performer, and Simon [Kinberg], and Rhett [Reese], and Paul [Wernick]. That's what I would say.
If the co-creator of Deadpool and Cable is okay with the direction the creative team could be going, then so should the fans. We mustn’t forget that this is the team that didn't give up on the original movie when it was shelved by the studio for so many years.
