Olivia Munn is set to make her debut as the sexy mutant Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse. She, and everyone else connected with the May 27 release, must be hoping for a level of success that meets or beats that of the recently released Deadpool. To everyone's surprise, Deadpool has already grossed more than $600 million worldwide, and is holding its ruling position at the box office for a third consecutive week.
But Olivia Munn doesn't think it's that surprising. While talking to MTV News on the Oscar 2016 Red Carpet, the actress offered a fine explanation for why the February 12 release is such a big hit. The interviewer asked her if the Deadpool’s R-rating might also work for X-Men movies. And here's how she responded:
I think what happened with Deadpool is a combination of Ryan being so amazing, and the writer, and the director, and everybody. For anything to be successful it has to be the perfect storm, so you hope you're the perfect storm all the time, right?
That's a cool answer, isn't it? Deadpool's success doesn’t necessarily mean that all R-rated superhero movies will work.
When asked if she knew what's next for Psylocke after X-Men: Apocalypse, Olivia failed to offer any details. However, she claims that the upcoming Bryan Singer flick is "really important" to her, as fans will get to see how "strong and lethal" Psylocke is. Well, from what we've seen so far, Olivia Munn's character definitely looks strong and lethal.
