Professor X and Magneto are the two pillars of the X-Men universe as adapted for the big screen until now. That, however, might come to an end.
It's been repeatedly stated and now it's known: X-Men: Apocalypse will be a game-changer, altering the history of the universe as built since the early 2000s.
This change will, possibility, also impact the status of Professor X and Magneto, as well as the relation between the two veterans.
In fact, if X-Men: Apocalypse pulls to whatever degree from Age of Apocalypse, it's more than possible. It's basically certain: Professor X is going to die.
How does Professor X die in the comic book?
The event which kicks off Age of Apocalypse is, in fact the very death of Professor X. In an attempt to stop the present from happening as it did by the making of Magneto, Charles Xavier's son travels back in time.
His intention: killing Magneto. Unfortunately, he fails to do that and, instead, he kills his father: young Professor X. Hence, the Age of Apocalypse.
The X-Men are led by Magneto, and the world struggles in chaos given Apocalypse's dominion over the globe. Of course, some of the classic good guys are tempted to slip to the dark side, whereas baddies come off as good guys.
But will Singer follow the book to the letter? Will he kill off Professor X off in X-Men: Apocalypse? Like Brett Ratner did - sort of - in The Last Stand?
How Charles Xavier could die in Apocalypse
If in Age of Apocalypse his death is what triggers the action, it's no guarantee Singer will proceed by killing him off at the beginning.
His death could happen at any moment, including in the final act. That would be a great way to usher in a different reality. A post-Apocalypse reality, that is. Which would, in fact, explain why Simon Kinberg says the movie "will impact really the course of history in the world".
Now, what do you think, guys? Could the death of Professor X be on Singer's agenda? Could this be the one event that alters the X-Men universe?
