Peyton Reed Teases Fully Formed Wasp in Ant-Man Sequel

While Peyton Reed's Ant-Man wasn't a huge hit for Marvel (surpassing only The Incredible Hulk in the US), it was a fun and interesting movie, and it brought audiences a new type of superhero who had a new set of special abilities. For some, it’s still one of the funniest Marvel movies to date, thanks to stars Paul Rudd and Michael Peña. So we’re excited about seeing a sequel in 2018.

Considering the fact that it will be the first MCU flick to follow Avengers: The Infinity War, we have all the more reason to want to see what Scott Lang is up to. The first movie had a by-the-numbers plot and a disposable (and, thus, forgettable) villain, so the stakes have been raised that much more. Quite frankly, we’d like to see another heist movie, with a more powerful villain than Yellowjacket.

Thanos’ powers have been revealed, and Ant-Man is going to need all the help he can get. As the sequel’s title implies, that help will come from The Wasp/Hope van Dyne. The end of Ant-Man teased the character’s transformation, and the suit looked gorgeous.

Peyton Reed said that the Wasp will be a fully formed superhero in the sequel. And this would be quite a leap, considering the first film’s conclusion and Hank Pym’s (Michael Douglas) reaction to the idea of his daughter becoming a superhero. At the same time, and given the Infinity War, it makes sense for Hope to be the Wasp in the sequel.

It's something we're excited about. For me, as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team, and that's a lot of what the second movie is really about – how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean, we've introduced the character, but we haven't seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me, she's not a supporting character in this movie. It's every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang's (CBM).

Peyton Reed also revealed that Ant-Man and the Wasp will start shooting this June, with a July 6, 2018 release date.
