Was Odin's Infinity Gauntlet the genuine article or not? According to Thor: Ragnarok’s Hela, it wasn’t, which explained how it was possible for two Gauntlets to exist even before the explanation that was offered in Infinity War.
But we still didn’t know why Odin kept a fake gauntlet when he had so many genuine and powerful artifacts. But a Reddit user named DraftDrew recently shared a new fan theory that appears to provide an explanation.
The theory postulates that Odin learned about the Infinity Stones from his father Bor, who had taken the Reality Stone from the Dark Elves. When Bor died, Odin set off on a quest to find the remaining Infinity Stones. Hela helped him find the Space Stone, which he used to travel and conquer new realms as rapidly as possible.
He brought the two stones to Navellir, where he asked for a device that would enable him to control the stones. His Infinity Gauntlet was created, along with fake Stones to fill its slots.
However, he then learned what he’d have to do to get the Soul Stone. Unlike Thanos, he couldn't kill his daughter. And with that, his time of conquest ended. Hela didn't understand this, but he banished her rather than killing her.
So there’s your explanation for Hela and Odin’s relationship. It also explains Hela’s belief that the Infinity Gauntlet he keeps in his vault is fake: if it were real, why did his father stop conquering new realms? After all, she recognized the real Space Stone.
In addition, this theory explains the approach of Ragnarok. Odin used the Space Stone to banish Hela to Hel, and placing a living being in Hel actually broke the natural law. Ragnarok and the destruction of Asgard were just ways for the Universe to balance itself.
