It's been some time since we last saw Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it will likely be some time before we see him again. We can be sure that we won’t see him in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War.
Last year, Jackson shared that he was hopeful that his former S.H.I.E.L.D. director would appear in the Russo Brothers' third and fourth Avengers installments. He’s now changed his tune, because he no longer believes that Nick Fury will appear in either movie. The 68-year-old actor told Yahoo Movies:
I wasn't in the “superhero argument” movie [Captain America: Civil War], I'm not in Avengers 3 and 4. They're shooting them now, and they haven't called me yet.
During the Yahoo interview, it appeared that Samuel L. Jackson wasn’t happy about being left out of 2018's Black Panther, the first MCU standalone movie to feature a black superhero:
They wouldn't let me go to Black Panther-ville, so it's kinda like, how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!
Jackson added that he hadn't signed a contract or even read the script for Captain Marvel. But it must be noted that the interview took place prior to 2017's San Diego Comic Con International, where Marvel President Kevin Feige confirmed that a de-aged version of Nick Fury would be in the Brie Larson starrer.
So, there's still a possibility that Jackson's character will show up in Avengers: Infinity War and/or its as yet untitled sequel. Even so, it's unlikely that any appearance will be much more than a cameo. After all, Jackson is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood, averaging four or five projects each year.
