The Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced an original character named Erik Selvig in their 2011 flick Thor. Stellan Skarsgård played the role, and we saw the character in Thor: The Dark World and the first two Avengers movies. Now, along with Chris Hemsworth's Norse God of Thunder, Erik Selvig won't be appearing in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.
But one would expect to see the character in Thor: Ragnarok, as he's basically a supporting character to Thor. However, in a recent interview with Den of Geek, Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd confirmed that Erik Selvig won't be in the third installment of the Thor film series! The actor stated that he's got one more movie remaining in his contract with Marvel Studios, but it won’t be the November 3, 2017 release.
At the moment, as far as we know, Thor: Ragnarok deals primarily with issues in Asgard and outer space. Erik Selvig is not an Asgardian - he's just a scientist who lives on Earth. So, his absence in the upcoming Taika Waititi venture is quite understandable, isn't it?
Erik Selvig may appear in Avengers: Infinity War!
Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd might not be reprising his role in Thor 3, but surely he’ll do so in at least one more MCU installment. What could that movie be? According to the actor, it's most likely one of the Avengers: Infinity War movies that are scheduled for May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release. Here's the actor's full statement:
I have a five-film deal with them, and they still have one option. Thor 3 is not on my slate, but maybe the next Avengers.
Well, we have already heard from the Russo Brothers, the directors of the Avengers: Infinity War movies, that there will be loads of characters in the next two installments. And the last time we saw Erik Selvig, he was at the New Avengers facility in Upstate New York toward the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was after Ultron's downfall to the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. So, his being one of the many Infinity War characters isn't surprising at all.
