A new trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse just made its way online! Plus, Sony Pictures Animation announced that Hailee Steinfeld and Lily Tomlin have joined the animated movie’s cast.
The first Into the Spider-Verse trailer, which dropped in December 2017, elegantly featured featured an acrobatic Miles Morales as he showed off some sophisticated moves, but gave away nothing about the film’s plot.
The second trailer is a bit different, offering a clearer picture of what’s happening in the movie and showcasing an impressive blend of comic book and Pixar-style 3D animation. Additional characters, including Miles' reluctant mentor Peter Parker and a spunky, free-spirited Spider-Gwen, are also featured. Check it out here for even more reasons to look forward to the animated venture's December 14, 2018 release!
And there’s more! A new Sony press release confirmed Hailee Steinfeld’s role as Spider-Gwen in Into the Spider-Verse. In addition, Lily Tomlin will voice Aunt May.
Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had the following to say about the movie’s cast roster, which also includes Shameik Moore (Miles Morales), Jake Johnson (Peter Parker), Liev Schreiber (Kingpin), Mahershala Ali (Miles' uncle Aaron), Brian Tyree Henry (Miles' father Jefferson) and Luna Lauren Velez (Miles' mother Rio):
We are lucky to have such an amazing cast of funny, genuine creative souls to populate the Spider-verse. They have generous minds and great big hearts. And they have very talented throats. Which is where their delightful voices come from.
We can't wait for the world to see Miles Morales on the big screen. He's such a fun and exciting new character, and telling his story through a revolutionary visual style makes for a totally fresh cinematic experience that, if we may say so, is freaking amazing.
