For the past year, we’ve thought that James McAvoy's Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, would appear in the New Mutants X-Men spin-off, but now it appears that that won’t be the case.
In May 2016, X-Men Universe writer/producer Simon Kinberg claimed that the New Mutants script would feature Professor X. Also, in an interview earlier this year, Anya Taylor-Joy seemed to re-confirm that her Split co-star would return in the upcoming Josh Boone flick:
I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn't he?
However, Borys Kit, the THR Heat Vision writer who broke the story of Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams' casting yesterday, tweeted that McAvoy's exceptionally powerful telepath wouldn't show up in the April 13, 2018 release.

The film reporter debunked another rumored New Mutants role, reporting that Ashby star Nat Wolff would not appear as Cannonball. Last November, Coming Soon had leaked a storyboard animatic for the movie, and added that the 22-year-old actor was in the running for the role.
Wolff starred in Boone's Struck in Love and The Fault in Our Stars, so the idea that the two could work together again was plausible. But according to Kit, that isn’t going to happen.

If you were excited about seeing James McAvoy's Professor X or Nat Wolff joining as Cannonball in New Mutants, you must be disappointed. To cheer you up, we have a sketch of Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik and Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, penciled by none other than Marvel Comics artist Phil Noto. Check out the lovely artwork below:
