Many fans believe that Marvel Studios wasted some serious talent by casting Idris Elba as Heimdall, who’s a rather insignificant character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a new Entertainment Weekly interview, Elba seems to agree as he mentions that he’d like to have a meatier role in the shared universe.
The 45-year-old actor said that, unlike others of his generation, he had no problem with superhero movies, and he had a "Peter Pan syndrome" in relation to such films. He added that he's glad to be playing Heimdall, but he feels a bit underused and would like to have a more significant role:
I wish I was more present in the Marvel family. I like what I have, but I also wish that I had a bigger character in the Marvel universe. It's been great, but I kinda think I need a bit more. I want to be a superhero. I like the idea of that.
During the interview, Elba shared that Thor: Ragnarok was only MCU installment that he had fun with. His previous roles were simply work:
I like that I have a little part in Thor. I'm neither movie star nor day player. It allows me to do other things I love. The last one [Ragnarok] was fun. The others weren't fun. They're work. But on this one, Taika [Waititi] was great.
