Nathan Fillion has become a fan-favorite actor, thanks to Joss Whedon's Firefly series and film, the highly successful series Castle, and films such as James Gunn's Slither. More relevant to the topic at hand, he also appeared in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. However, he was unrecognizable in that film due to the CGI used to create his character, a bulky alien the Guardians meet on Kyln, who was quickly dispatched by Groot.
The actor's fans were excited when the news broke that Nathan Fillion would cameo in the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. His face hadn't been seen in the first movie, so he could play a meatier role in the sequel (or in any other MCU flick, for that matter). Leaked photos from the set revealed that Fillion was originally supposed to play Simon Williams, better known as Wonder Man. The photos indicated that Williams was an actor in the MCU (as he is in the comics). We assumed that he was ready to become a superhero.
However, Nathan Fillion revealed that this was just a funny cameo, an Easter-Egg for the fans to discover. Williams was never intended to be an actual superhero. The actor then posted a pic on his Instagram account that revealed his character as the superhero Arkon:
Unfortunately, this Easter-Egg ended up on the cutting room floor, so we have no idea what the scene might have been. It’s likely that it was a clip from the movie, but most importantly, who was actually watching the clip?
One of the recent TV spots indicates that part of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 will take place on Earth, so it could have been anybody watching trailers for superhero movies that featured Arkon.
It would have been fun, though. And we would bet that the scene will be included when Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 is released on Blu-ray.
