A couple of days ago we reported that Matthew McConaughey has talked with both DC and Marvel, with him actually receiving scripts from both of the studios. However, he didn't say if he chose any of them, although he did express his interest in appearing in superhero movies.
Obviously, when a star like Matthew McConaughey expresses his desire to play in a comic book movie, rumors begin to fly. And the most interesting one concerns his appearance in a Marvel production.
Matthew McConaughey as Norman Osborn
Obviously, when considering Matthew McConaughey, one would suggest that he should maybe portray a big hero in either of the cinematic universes. However, given his range as an actor, wouldn't making him a superhero be too easy of a role?
This is probably what people believed when this rumor started. According to THS, not only Asa Butterfield has all but been officially confirmed for Marvel's reboot of Spider-Man, but the studio is closing the deal for the new Norman Osborn.
And who might portray the quintessential villain of Spider-Man? Of course, it is Matthew McConaughey. What does that mean?

Yet again the Green Goblin
This means that this will be the third version of Spider-Man's enemy in 15 years (if the planned Spider-Man Reboot isn't delayed). So after the terrific performance of Willem Dafoe in 2002 and after the forgettable version of Chris Cooper from the (not so) Amazing series, is Matthew McConaughey the next one to become the Green Goblin?
Of course, THS believes that a different path should be taken as far as Osborn is concerned - check out the small clip below.
But what we believe is that maybe, just maybe, Marvel should choose another villain for its first Spider-Man movie. And while Matthew McConaughey may be the best villain to be released in a Marvel Studios film, he maybe should be someone else than Norman Osborn.
