Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, and Captain Marvel might have been the highlights of Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con International, but the studio also made some important announcements regarding Black Panther.
They not only confirmed the casting of two actors who were previously reported to have joined the February 16, 2018 release, but they also added another. And they also revealed what roles they would be playing.
Creed star Michael B. Jordan and Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Lupita Nyong'o had reportedly been added to Black Panther. Now, Marvel confirms that the two are definitely on board. Danai Gurira, the actress who is best known for portraying Michonne in the AMC series The Walking Dead, has also been officially cast for the Ryan Coogler venture.
In the eighteenth Marvel Cinematic Universe installment, Michael B. Jordan will play the iconic Black Panther nemesis Erik Killmonger. The supervillain first appeared in Marvel Comics back in the 1973 issue, Jungle Action #6. He is known to be a powerful warrior and a strategic genius in politics and economics. He's both a physical and mental match for T'Challa.
Many had assumed that the actor is portraying the titular superhero's adopted elder brother White Wolf in Black Panther. That's not happening.
Lupita Nyong'o won't be seen as Monica Lynne or Shuri, either. Her character goes by the name of Nakia. Nakia is a member of Wakanda's all-female honor guard, the Dora Milaje.
This character is an interesting one, because at one point in the comics, Killmonger transforms her into Malice, a supervillain with superhuman strength, speed, and agility.
The initial report suggested that Lupita would be playing Chadwick Boseman's character’s love interest. That seems unlikely at the moment.
In Black Panther, Danai Gurira will be portraying one of the superhero's allies, Okoye. The character is the leader of the Dora Milaje.
Marvel has released a brand new logo for Black Panther, while Chadwick Boseman has shared a photo featuring the movie's cast members and director. You can check out both below!
