Wondering what happened to Valkyrie after Thor: Ragnarok? We have some answers for you, courtesy of Avengers: Infinity War co-director Joe Russo. He was considerate enough to reveal the character’s fate during a recent visit to his alma mater, the University of Iowa.
Tessa Thompson debuted as Valkyrie in Ragnarok, and the character immediately won over legions of fans. So, it made no sense at all when no mention was made of her in Infinity War, especially after Ragnarok closed with her, Thor, Loki, Hulk, and Heimdall on an Asgardian ship that Thanos would take over as Infinity War opened. In our worst nightmares, Valkyrie met her death during the attack, and Marvel didn't even care enough to clue us in. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.
A Redditor reported that Joe Russo confirmed during a university-sponsored Q & A event that the hard-drinking Asgardian was not killed off-screen.
Russo added that Valkyrie slipped Thanos' clutches an escape pod, accompanied by a number of Asgardians. But the director continued to avoid the topic of what happened to Korg:
He did confirm that Valkyrie lived…The Asgardians escaped on escape pods, thus there are survivors of the refugees. When asked about Korg (by me!), he wasn't willing to say what his fate was.
@AbbyR_Patterson tweeted her own confirmation of Russo's alleged statements:
Just in! Valkyrie lives. According to director Joe Russo, she was taken on a rescue ship along with some other Asgardians. No word on Korg yet. pic.twitter.com/kDbdjbR0K9
