Lucky journalists attending the first Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 screening at the Disney Burbank lot had the opportunity to talk with the mastermind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe's success. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Feige touched on a number of interesting topics during the interviews, so check it out!
Asked about Spider-Man's role in the MCU is concerned, Feige said that Tom Holland is set to star in Homecoming, Infinity War, Avengers 4, and the Homecoming sequel. He implied that after those movies are completed, they would have to reach a new deal with Sony. It appears that recent rumors have been true, but the success of this version of the web-crawler is likely to decide Peter Parker's future in the MCU.
Feige also talked about James Gunn’s recent announcement that he was set to pen and helm the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie. According to the Marvel boss, Gunn will have a much more significant role in shaping the post-Phase III MCU. By the looks of it, James Gunn is completely invested in what he's doing, and he’s one of the few filmmakers with a passion for comic books. We feel that this is great news!
According to Feige, Deadpool and Logan were hits because they were rated R, rather than because they pushed boundaries. He also said that Marvel currently has no plans to make R-rated flicks, and added that there’s no formula for the writers to follow. Instead, blending action and comedy actually entertains the filmmakers themselves. Is that a bad thing? Could it adversely affect Marvel flicks in terms of their success? We feel that the answer is pretty simple.
When asked about whether Josh Brolin’s role as Cable in Fox's Mutant Universe would affect his role as Thanos, Feige said that he sees no problem, since the characters couldn’t be more different. He even mentioned that Harrison Ford portrayed both Indiana Jones and Han Solo perfectly and made history with both characters.
Lastly, Feige talked about Joss Whedon's announcement that he'll write and direct the Warner Bros. Batgirl solo flick. Feige said that he knew about Whedon’s plans, because the director called him before making the big announcement. He added that he'd be very excited to see a successful Batgirl flick from Joss Whedon.
