In the last 10 years, under the leadership of Kevin Feige, the Marvel Cinematic Universe became the most successful franchise of all times. 19 movies in, the MCU has already grossed more than almost 17 billion dollars worldwide. And the future is looking even brighter!
Sure, there can be many faults found in all of these movies. And most of them concern the villains. Nonetheless, they are all fun to see. At the same time, without losing their tone, they also debate some very important issues our society confronts today.
Talking about the success and the influence of the Marvel films, Kevin Feige also revealed what the best and most important film of the MCU is:
"The experience of making "˜Black Panther,' even before it came out, was a transformative one. We're watching the final playback, where you see the final film and check for any last-minute changes, and when it ended I just instinctually leaned over to Ryan and said, "˜I think this is the best movie we've ever made.’" (The Wrap)
Even if it was released in February, Black Panther grossed 1.34 billion dollars worldwide. Furthermore, more than half of these earnings came from the US, making the film the most successful Marvel film at home.
But of course Kevin Feige wasn't talking (just) about the money Black Panther made: "We had to make that movie to destroy a myth that Black movies don't succeed around the world."
And things will change even further, with Kevin Feige also admitting that women will also start playing a bigger role in the MCU than before: "At this point, there are more women on track to take leadership at Marvel Studios then there are men."
Obviously, Captain Marvel will be just the beginning.
