In Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, J.K. Simmons portrayed Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson, a casting choice that’s considered by many to be one of the best in the comic book movie genre. The Academy Award-winning actor went on to voice the character in a number of animated ventures, including The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Ultimate Spider-Man.
A couple of months ago, a petition was launched on Change.org asking Marvel Studios to recast Simmons as Jonah Jameson in their upcoming Spider-Man movie. The petition has earned more than two thousand signatures.
Entertainment Tonight recently talked to the 61-year-old actor, and asked his opinion. And here's how he responded:
That petition does not come from anybody that is in a position to actually do anything about it.
Okay, Simmons doesn't seem too excited about the petition, but that doesn't mean he isn't interested in playing the character again. He stated:
Doing those movies with Sam was one of the great joys of my career. It was a super fun character"¦so I’ll never close the door on anything.
Even though J. Jonah Jameson appeared in each of Raimi's Spider-Man movies, The Amazing Spider-Man movies didn't use him. There were references to the character in the second installment of the reboot franchise.
So, we are not sure whether Marvel-Sony intends to use the character in the July 7, 2017 release. If yes, who other than J.K. Simmons would be a better option to portray the character? Check out the interview clip below!
