If you’ve been wondering whether James McAvoy's Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, will appear in X-Men: The New Mutants, you can now rest assured that he will indeed be a part of it! The confirmation comes from The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy, who is reportedly in consideration for the role of Magik in the movie.
During a recent press junket for M. Night Shyamalan's psychological horror thriller Split (via Coming Soon), the American-born Argentine-British model/actress claimed that she had seen The New Mutants storyboard animatic that surfaced online a couple of months ago:
I have [seen the Demon Bear animatic]; it's pretty cool. I'm a big fan so I'd love to be a part of it. I can't say very much, but I would love to be a part of it. I think this year's gonna be very exciting.
When asked if she hoped to work with her Split co-star James McAvoy in The New Mutants once again, Anya responded, "I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn't he?"
Of course, this isn't the first we’ve heard about Charles Xavier's appearance in the Josh Boone flick. In May 2016, producer Simon Kinberg revealed in an interview that the character was in the script at that point. As the final draft for the movie wasn't finished then, we couldn't be sure that the world's most powerful telepathic mutant would eventually be in it.
From what Anya Taylor-Joy has said, one might feel that she’s very close to signing for The New Mutants. Her words also tend to fall in line with a previous report that suggested a May 2017 start for the movie's production. We mustn't forget that Boone himself has endorsed that report via his official Twitter account.
