James Gunn Wants a Nebula Spin-Off

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the most cohesive shared comic book movie universe for one reason: Kevin Feige planned everything from the very start and didn't give in to the fans' requests for spin-offs. Sure, Spider-Man: Homecoming changed this plan, but only to a very small degree. So we can understand why Black Widow didn't receive her solo flick, even if the discussions have intensified ever since Captain America: Civil War arrived.

But Black Widow isn't the only character who deserves a spin-off, according to James Gunn. The Guardians of the Galaxy director, who will return to the MCU next year with Vol. II, said that Nebula is his favorite character, and she deserves a solo movie:

I have a few favorites myself, but I agree that Nebula should lead her own film – it’s something I’ve thought about from the beginning. (via CBM)

And this is a bit weird, since Nebula was barely sketched in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Besides being the least favorite daughter of Thanos and holding a grudge against Gamora (with whom she has a bit in common, since they both betrayed the Mad Titan), she had a less than secondary role.

Of course, this will change in Vol. II, in which she is set to join the Guardians of the Galaxy. So maybe she will reveal herself as a character worthy of a spin-off then. After all, James Gunn is directing:

And what’s harder, becoming a family or being a family? I think it’s being a family. That’s where you really have to deal with each other. And that’s what this movie is about. And they are sisters. They are family, whether they like it or not. And they also want to kill each other, so it adds a new twist to being a sister. (via CBM)

What do you think, though? Should Nebula have her own solo movie?
