After the Infinity War, many heroes will be retired, or the actors playing them will be replaced - so where does Iron Man stand?
For eight years, Robert Downey, Jr. has been the face of the MCU, not only bringing a second-tier Marvel superhero to life, but making a superstar out of him. Thus far, he’s starred in a full trilogy, two Avengers movies, and one Captain America movie. He’s also cameoed in quite a few others. Most recently, it was announced that he will also appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, it all may end after the Infinity War begins.
So what will Marvel do? Will Kevin Feige retire Iron Man? Or will he find a replacement actor for RDJ (as if…)?
Jon Favreau (director of the first two Iron Man films) was asked the same question. He responded that he cannot wrap his head around this, and who could? Robert Downey Jr. has made history with the character,so it’s hard to imagine another actor taking his place. It’s like replacing Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones role, or even Han Solo"¦
Anyway, here’s what the director said:
I can't imagine how they could (replace RDJ), but that doesn't mean that they can't. I just can't wrap my head around that one. To me, he's the one element that has unified all of it, and I think kept a consistent tone, and the integrity of his acting ability and his talent really work wonderfully synergistically with the Marvel universe. I think that his personality is something which helps define it. That being said, nothing would surprise me, but for me it would be a hard pill to swallow and big shoes to fill."
Well, he got that right - Iron Man did unify the entire MCU. What do you think? Should RDJ be replaced after 2019?
