If Marvel and Sony couldn't agree on a cameo of Spider-Man in Civil War, maybe one in Infinity Wars could work. At least, this is what the emails sent to Sony Chief Executive Officer Michael Lynton.
In a nutshell, the rumors that Marvel and Sony were discussing the Spider-Man issue were revealed to be true in the dawn of the Sony hack attack. However, those discussions came to a halt when Sony didn't approve of Marvel's strategy.
But now, several more tidbits of information have been revealed, showing the discussions didn't end there. And this has to be good news for the hardcore Spider-Man fans who believe that the web-slinger should come back to those that created him.
Here's the news
According to those emails, while Spider-Man won't be involved in the Civil War, this doesn't mean that he will be completely oblivious to it. In fact, until the Infinity Wars take place, a film should be made with Spider-Man in a post-Civil War era.
This means that the movie will take place in a world divided between two factions of superheroes. It isn't known whether Spider-Man would be like a Switzerland or whether he will choose a side. But these are facts - that he will live again with aunt May, that he will be back in high school, and that he is aware of the existence of other superheroes.
Does this mean"¦?
Yes, this means again that the next Spider-Man will be a reboot - if Sony agrees with Marvel and the web-slinger will appear in Infinity Wars.
But this isn't the whole deal. The whole deal presumes that a second Spider-Man film will be made (other than the one following Civil War) in 2019, right after the Infinity Wars are finished.
So, in a way and if the deal is made, we should expect a Spider-Man movies to happen in 2017 and another one in 2019. And this is great news, especially if Marvel will have a say in the way these movies are made.
Could this happen?
Given the fact that Sony's strength is greatly diminished after the hack attack and given the fact that they need now more than ever some new blood (which actually means money) after canceling The Interview, these new talks have a bigger chance of being seen through than the ones concerning Civil War.
But then again, no matter how appealing the idea of seeing Spider-Man in the Infinity Wars is, the powers that be will be the ones to decide. And one of these powers is, unfortunately, Sony.
