Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Will there be an Infinity Stone?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is about to get underway with James Gunn at the helm, and while is little known about the story, more details surfaced during a Facebook video Q&A with the director himself.

Gunn revealed some interesting facts, but the most interesting are related to the Infinity Stones. The purple Power Stone, aka the Orb, was introduced in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, held at The Collector’s museum at some point. Speaking of The Collector, it’s been confirmed that Benicio del Toro is not returning as director.

Phase Three will surely introduce the last two stones, the Soul Stone and the Time Stone, so don’t expect to see this in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

“We’re not really so much about the Infinity Stones in Guardians 2. Is that a spoiler? It’s not really a thing,” James Gunn revealed.

It’s no wonder that the Infinity Stones will play a major role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as Thanos is the one who’s trying to collect all, and he’s currently too busy in Avengers: Infinity War. No Thanos in GOTG 2, either. James Gunn explained:

As I’ve said before, Thanos isn’t in this movie. I think he’s gonna have a little bit to do and say when it comes to certain wars and Infinity. We’ve got other fish to fry in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Here are just a few additional details that might interest you:

  • Kraglin – played by Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn – will have an important role in the movie.
  • We know that Gunn is not limited by the studio when it comes to budget, but Marvel is very involved in the making of GOTG 2, and Gunn respects their opinions.
  • Gunn has cast “the most awesome and easiest person”, and he cannot wait to share her identity with the world, describing her as amazing. We don’t know who she us or what role she will play.
  • The director is excited about Deadpool, Batman v Superman and Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, and he’s looking forward to seeing them in theaters.
