With a little more than three months remaining before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 rolls into theaters, five new stills from the movie have surfaced online. USA Today was first to launch the photos, but the images were of low-resolution. Thankfully, director James Gunn shared high-quality versions via his official Facebook account.
The photos offer a new look at the original members of the intergalactic team - Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord), Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Drax the Destroyer. But we also get to see new characters, including Yondu, Baby Groot, and Mantis.
Apart from the photos, the outlet also posted brief interviews with the movie’s director and cast members. According to Gunn, the original movie was successful because they took chances and surprised the fans:
This movie can only really be what it is, Guardians can only be what they are, if they're taking a risk. It means giving them a much different movie.
In the movie, Peter Quill takes on the responsibility of leading the team. But Chris Pratt doesn't know whether his character will ever be "a fully functioning, responsible adult"!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will introduce Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet, who is Quill’s father. Russell believes that he is never going to play a mightier character:
Ego is the most powerful character I'm ever going to play. I mean, he created himself! He's the real deal.
From what Zoe Saldana says, it seems that her Gamora will be the guardian of the Guardians in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe installment:
She's surrounded by all these dudes who are so stupid half the time. She has to be the voice of reason.
Saldana goes on to say that the team's first solo outing opened the door for comic book properties like Deadpool and Suicide Squad to exhibit their uniqueness on the big screen, adding:
It's given permission to so many other filmmakers to let these action movies not only have a little more heart and soul, but to have a little more entertainment besides just, “CRASH! BOOM! BANG! BLARGH!” It makes me really happy.
