It was confirmed earlier this month that the as-yet untitled Wolverine 3 has already kicked off production. Along with Hugh Jackman's Logan and Sir Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier, the James Mangold movie will feature Boyd Holbrook as the lead villain; Richard E. Grant as a mad scientist; and actors like Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, and Elise Neal in some unspecified roles. And it's close to adding another member to its cast roster!
According to The Wrap, Puerto Rican-American actress Elizabeth Rodriguez is the one who is likely to join Wolverine 3. She is making a deal with 20th Century Fox to feature in the movie. The outlet suggests that she won't have much screen time in the movie, but it's a "key role".
Elizabeth Rodriquez has been active in Hollywood since 1994. She's played minor roles in a dozen and a half movies. But, she came into spotlight in 2013 with her performance as Aleida Diaz in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She then featured as Liza Ortiz in Fear the Walking Dead. Elizabeth was a series regular on the first season of the AMC series and a guest star in the second.
It is strongly rumored that Laura Kinney, aka X-23, will appear in Wolverine 3. A casting call looking for stand-ins and photo doubles suggested that the character will be a Caucasian, Hispanic, or Asian-looking female with dark brown hair. Well, Elizabeth Rodriguez is Hispanic and has the specified hair color. Does that mean she is being eyed for the role of X-23?
I assume not. The 35-year-old actress seems too old for the role in Wolverine 3. They would want to hire an actress in her early twenties. But is she too young for the role of Laura's surrogate mother and mutant geneticist Doctor Sarah Kinney? Maybe not! That could be a small but key role!
However, that's just guesswork. Elizabeth's character in the March 3, 2017 release might have nothing to do with X-23 at all.
