Doctor Strange is one of the most exciting comic book adaptations lately, and there’s not much time left until the movie’s release. For those who know the character of Doctor Strange from comic books, director Scott Derrickson revealed that the movie will honor the source. Derrickson told the Los Angeles Daily News:
If your love for the early Stan Lee-Steve Ditko comics was that visual, psychedelic ambition, I think you’ll be pretty satisfied. The primary resource for the visual design of the whole movie came from those comics. I told them it should take a bold left turn, like the ’60s comics. And I think they liked how I gravitate toward real actors, talented actors who are grounded in performances that are real, while dealing with the supernatural. That’s why I’ve had great actors in genre films, which they usually don’t do. And that was certainly the case with Doctor Strange.
The cast is indeed fabulous: Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, Rachel McAdams, and Benedict Wong.
Stan Lee thinks that Derrickson got the character right
Stan Lee had a major contribution to Doctor Strange’s development during the years, and his positive reaction regarding Derrickson’s work is encouraging.
During a Q&A session at Fan Expo Canada, Lee told the audience, “Scott Derrickson got Doctor Strange right.” Moisés Chiullan was there and he reported Lee’s statement on Twitter.

Stan Lee joked about wishing to have been cast as Doctor Strange: “You know I’m disappointed I wasn’t cast as Doctor Strange. I think I’m strange enough.” He also did two of the Doctor’s incantations.
Doctor Strange was created in 1963 by Steve Ditko, who used psychedelic visuals of Strange’s powers, and Derrickson just confirmed that they will mimic that surreal aesthetic.
