When the name Chris Evans is mentioned, it’s only natural for his six-movie run as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America to come to mind. But Evans also played Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in the Fantastic Four movies.
It’s been over a decade since Evans last played the Human Torch, but at one point, Deadpool 2 screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese seriously considered having him reprise the role in a Deadpool 2 post-credits cameo. Unfortunately, the scene was never made it past the brainstorming stage.
Wernick and Reese discussed the scrapped post-credits scene – in which Deadpool interviewed Johnny as a potential X-Force member – during a recent interview with Uproxx. Asked about the various proposed post-credits scenes, Wernick explained:
There were different codas kicked around. There were more X-Force interviews that were talked about. One was Chris Evans as Human Torch.
Reese added that they rejected the idea for the post-credits scene with The Human Torch before they even ran it by Evans:
No, no, we never got that far. Someone had the idea we actually did, and we thought that was better. But we definitely had a lot more X-Force interviews with bizarre, random people coming in to interview.
It would have been fun to see Evans as the Human Torch again, but even without him, things are going well for Deadpool 2. Its Rotten Tomatoes approval rating (based on 143 reviews) sits at 85 percent, and it’s on track to bring in an impressive $130-$150 million in its opening weekend in North America.
