Right from the beginning, Ryan Reynolds and the team Deadpool movie have vowed for an R-Rated flick. Pretty recently, MPAA confirmed that the first solo outing of the Merc with a Mouth has indeed earned R-rating.
While most were pleased with the rating, some were disappointed. They launched a petition for a kid-friendly PG- 13 cut for the movie. At the moment, it has slightly above three thousand signatures.
But it seems the petition might bag a billion plus signatures more! Why does it seem so? Because China has rejected Deadpool's request for the permission to screen in their territory! That is what The Hollywood Reporter claims!
According to their report, the world's second largest movie market has said NO to Deadpool movie due to its "˜violence, nudity and graphic language'!
This is not just a bad news for Chinese fans of Deadpool but also for 20th Century Fox. Not screening a movie in China means letting go at least a $100 million. While a big superhero movie like Avengers: Age of Ultron grossed around $240 million from China alone, a much smaller superhero movie like Ant-Man bagged more than $105 million from the territory.
And that's actually a bad news for the ones who were wishing for a PG-13 cut of Deadpool. Cleaned-up special cuts of R-rated Hollywood movies are usually created in association of China's censorship authorities. But in case of Deadpool movie, it wasn't possible! Why? Because expunging the "˜offending material' would cause "˜plot problems'! So, the story would be the same for a PG- 13 cut of Deadpool as well.
But it is actually a pleasant thing to hear if you were expecting the movie to be not JUST R-Rated but PURELY R-Rated!
