A couple of outlets have reported that Stranger Things star David Harbour may be a contender for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2!
Over the last year or so, various actors’ names have been mentioned in connection with the role of Nathan Summers in the highly anticipated Deadpool sequel. While Ron Perlman, Stephen Lang, and Dolph Lundgren have thrown their own names into the mix, Kyle Chandler and Pierce Brosnan have also been under consideration by 20th Century Fox. David Harbour is just the latest addition to the second list.
The Wrap reports that the actor, who’s currently a series regular on Netflix's sci-fi horror series Stranger Things as Police Chief Jim Hopper, is being eyed for the role of the time-traveling mutant. Their source suggests that he has already screen-tested for the part.
While representatives for both Harbour and Fox have kept mum when asked for comments, Collider claims that their sources also back up the story. The outlet insists that a deal hasn't been sealed, but the 41-year-old actor has indeed screen-tested with lead actor Ryan Reynolds. They added that he’s one of the actors Reynolds and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch are considering for the role of Cable.
Their sources also claimed that two-time Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon was also in the running for the role at one point. However, due to scheduling conflicts, he was forced to pass.
Playing Cable is obviously not a one-and-done deal. The character will return in an X-Force movie following his introduction in the Deadpool sequel. Whoever gets the part will have to commit to a multiple-picture deal.
