Production for Coogler’s Black Panther movie hasn’t begun, as the script is still in the works, yet we have some nice details about the plot.
During San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios announced the cast, but we got to hear a little about the plot from Lupita Nyong'o (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). We will see her in the role of Okoye.
“The story of this Black Panther is – what am I allowed to say? The story is that the Black Panther's leadership is really threatened by two foes who come together, and so Black Panther gets the help of the C.I.A. and the Dora Milaje to try and defeat the enemy,” Nyong’o said during the press rounds following the panel.
We hope that she won’t get into trouble with the studio (honestly, I don’t think so).
Black Panther character details revealed at San Diego Comic-Con
On stage at Comic-Con's Hall H, Ryan Coogler introduced some of the characters we’ll get to see in Black Panther. We all know that Chadwick Boseman will portray the Wakandan king and hero. “Ryan has beautiful things in store for us,” Boseman said after Coogler introduced him.
Following Chadwick Boseman’s introduction, it was Nyong’o’s turn. She was announced to be playing Okoye, and Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead) was announced as Nakia.
Erik Killmonger, a professional fighter and one of Black Panther’s foes, will be played by Coogler collaborator Michael B. Jordan.
It was Boseman’s first time at Comic-Con, while Coogler got to be there as a fan in 2009.
