Due to electrifying occurrences, like the Avengers vs. Avengers battle or the arrival of Spider-Man and Black Panther, we often tend to forget that Captain America: Civil War has villains! Maybe another reason behind it is that hardly any baddie in a Marvel Cinematic Universe installment has enthralled us (Loki has been an exception). However, one of the bad guys in the upcoming May 6 release, Daniel Brühl's Baron Zemo, might just be an exception.
But, unlike Frank Grillo's Crossbones or William Hurt's Thaddeus Ross, we haven't caught a single glimpse of Baron Zemo in any of the Civil War trailers or TV spots. Marvel hasn't even released a still featuring Daniel's character. The studio actually intends to keep things under wraps, as Daniel Brühl reveals in a recent interview with Total Film (via Comic Book Movie).
Even though he claims to be "really scared to say too much", he does give away some tidbits about his Civil War character. While his German accent does contribute in his landing the role, the actor claims that his Baron Zemo isn't a typical German villain:
Yes, but what I like is it's not a stereotype. It's not a guy who's mean and sinister, but he's actually very clever - a very smart guy who does everything out of a very understandable reason and motivation.
That sounds interesting. And that's what we expect! An actor of Daniel Brühl's class doesn't deserve to portray just a stereotypical villain.
Baron Zemo orchestrates events throughout Civil War!
During the interview, the actor teases that Baron Zemo is actually the mastermind behind things that are happening in the upcoming Russo Brothers flick. According to Brühl:
Some of the things that happen in the film, and why they happen, are because of him. He is orchestrating things that happen throughout the film. I think that's something I can say, goddam it!
Back in October of last year, the actor revealed that his Baron Zemo is loosely connected to his comic book counterpart, and doesn't wear the signature purple mask. He also revealed there's a possibility that his character may return after Civil War.
